 Let's Read

This week fourth grade students from Oakview Elementary, led by teachers Rita Dambrun and Lindsay Thompson, embarked on an ambitious adventure: to read, read, and read some more during two different one hour blocks of the day. The reason for the read-a-thon? To raise money for their field trip to the Henry Ford Museum in March.  So, just how successful was this little undertaking? Our students raised almost $3000!

The read-a-thon was held on Wednesday, January 18. Students were given a genre checklist of materials that they would be required to read. The genres included poetry, magazines, non-fiction, comic books, and of course, reader’s choice.  Students had at least 3 blocks of time to read whatever they wanted, as well as the opportunity to quietly read with a buddy (or two).  Some of our fourth graders even brought their Nooks and Kindles from home.
